Ibiza Town Hall has launched Cicerone for the 2024 season, a new artificial intelligence tool designed to make life easier for tourists and help them better plan their visit to the island.

This tool, which works like a kind of virtual assistant, can provide answers in 95 different languages.

Cicerone processes all the municipality's tourist information as well as the calendar of events and provides the traveler with personalized itineraries according to their preferences. The tool can be tested on the website https://turismo.eivissa.es/. In the Plan your visit to Eivissa section, click on Create your personalized route with AI.

Here you need to enter the arrival and departure dates and times, whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, with family or friends, what you are looking for, etc.

The assistant was launched in January to coincide with the FITUR tourism fair and is now available to travelers.

Can be transferred to other destinations

Behind Cicerone is a Murcian startup called iUrban, which is now based in Málaga. This tool can be used to plan routes to many other destinations.

The AI helps to create itineraries and explains the different points of interest. It also takes into account whether the user has a physical disability or a dietary specialty, e.g. coeliac disease.

"The difference between Cicerone and ChatGTP is that we connect to the tourist websites of the cities where we offer the service. Therefore, our avatar cuts out all the noise on the internet and focuses on the destination's website," one of the company's co-founders, Andrés Martínez, told La Opinión de Murcia.

In addition to Ibiza Town Council, other regional administrations have already expressed their interest in implementing Cicerone on their tourist websites, including the Community of Madrid, the Community of Valencia and the Region of Murcia.

To ensure data protection for users of the tool, iUrban has entered into a partnership with the giant Microsoft. The startup ensures that "no one keeps the conversations".

Cicerone won the first edition of The AI for Tourism Awards 2024, organized by SEGITTUR and FITUR. The prize was awarded to 14 solutions developed with artificial intelligence and aimed at solving challenges in the tourism sector.
