A large percentage of travelers are not only aware of artificial intelligence, but also like to use it to plan, book and experience trips.

This is shown in Phocuswright's recent travel research report, GenAI and Emerging Tech Use Among Travelers, in which nearly half of travelers confirmed that they would be comfortable with a chatbot interaction where they specify their travel preferences and the AI platform offers a variety of recommendations.

Among the travelers of different nationalities surveyed, the French and Germans were the least comfortable with this application. Americans, Spaniards and Brits, on the other hand, were the most relaxed about using it.

In terms of age, the youngest tourists were the most in favor of using GenAI.

"Those most comfortable are most likely to be under 55 in the US, Canada and the UK, and under 35 in France, Germany and Spain. In general, younger travelers seem to be most comfortable, with the exception of the US and the UK, where the 35-54 age group feels the most comfortable," Phocuswright notes.

The company also emphasizes that the ability to use natural language predestines generative AI applications for "high adoption"

"Many of the initial use cases in travel are non-intrusive and do not require users to learn new skills or open new accounts. This is an inherent advantage for brands looking to leverage their capabilities and introduce AI-powered features," the company adds.

To compile this report, Phocuswright conducted various surveys among travelers in Europe and North America at the end of 2023. The study also discusses travelers' opinions on emerging technologies other than GenAI.
