After the business earthquake caused by the announcement of Apple's partnership with OpenAI and Elon Musk's complaints, rumors about the deal are not small. How much money did Apple pay to integrate ChatGPT into iPhone, Mac and iPad?

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is paying zero. According to specialized sources consulted by the journalist, Apple believes that it is enough to enable millions of users to use ChatGPT. This means that the payment will be made when the system is distributed by OpenAI.

Representatives of both technology companies do not want to comment on this matter due to the confidentiality agreement. However, this could lead to a conflict with Microsoft, which already has to pay OpenAI to be present in the Azure cloud. The more users use ChatGPT, the higher the operating costs and the greater the possibility of falling into monopolistic practices, for which the US judiciary is already investigating several companies such as Altaman, Nvidia or Microsoft.

The contract does not include exclusivity, so Apple can continue to negotiate with Google to integrate Gemini, its chatbot, into the Mac operating system.

Reactions

The announcement has provoked mixed reactions in the technology industry. On the one hand, some think Apple's decision not to pay money to use ChatGPT is smart, as it is using its large user base to gain a competitive advantage without incurring additional costs. On the other hand, some experts warn that this strategy could strain the relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft, especially given the additional operating costs incurred by the increased use of ChatGPT.

For Altman's people, the partnership with Apple represents an unprecedented opportunity to expand ChatGPT's reach. However, this expansion comes with significant challenges. The more users that utilize ChatGPT via Apple devices, the higher the operational costs for OpenAI, especially in light of the cloud infrastructure provided by Microsoft Azure.

In addition, the lack of exclusivity of the agreement could mean that OpenAI will have to rethink its relationship with Microsoft and potential future collaborations with other tech giants such as Google.

Elon Musk's complaints add to this already complex scenario. Musk, who is known for his often controversial views on artificial intelligence and its development, has been critical of OpenAI and its strategies for integrating AI into technology products, which could affect public perception and the future business decisions of the companies involved.
