The European Commission has advertised a post for an artificial intelligence (AI) specialist to support the European Union's AI policy. The post, based in Seville, Spain, will focus on AI testing and evaluation and promote practices of transparency, fairness and human oversight.

The successful candidate will contribute to research activities on AI risks and mitigations and develop assessment methodologies. The role will involve developing methods for evaluating AI models for general purposes and the ethical and social implications of AI, with a particular focus on recommender systems and generative AI.

The European Commission specifies in its offer some of the areas of work in which the candidate may develop, such as conducting scientific mapping studies, working with metrics, measurements or evaluation practices. He/she will also provide scientific input to EU policies in the field of artificial intelligence.

A PhD or college degree and at least two years of professional experience in the field of AI as well as advanced English language skills are required. Additional experience in AI evaluation, generative models and software development in Python is appreciated.

Furthermore, experience with the architecture and lifecycle of large-scale AI algorithms or software development and technical knowledge for the Commission is an asset. Experience in AI policy, in particular with the AI Act and the EU Digital Services Act, is also a strong advantage.

The salary as a Group IV within the EU would be between €1,900 and €6,000 per month.
