Cassie Kozyrkov, CEO of Data Scientific, shared crucial insights on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the transformation of human resources practices, particularly in the context of automation and the integration of AI in HR tasks.

Speaking at the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) AI + HI Project event in Silicon Valley, Kozyrkov provided valuable insights to HR leaders and executives. In one of his first reflections, he highlighted the automation potential of AI, especially in tasks commonly assigned to employees early in their careers.

“Those tasks are perfect for this type of automation,” due to their repetitive and digitized nature but it raised the first big question: “What is our plan for training graduates?” What is our plan to create those senior positions? “So he points to the need for strategic planning as AI takes on more routine tasks.

Emphasizing the current capabilities of AI, Kozyrkov noted "AI development is at a stage where the technology is really good at assisting 'human-in-the-loop' work." This statement underlines the importance of humans working alongside AI to verify and ensure the accuracy and relevance of AI results.

Risks and errors

Addressing the dangers of AI without proper oversight of that “human in loop,” Kozyrkov warned of the propensity for errors when AI operates on a large scale without proper controls. "Business automation is a completely different game...these systems make mistakes, maybe not often, but they do."

The CEO of Data Scientific also criticized the depersonalization of technology, where AI decisions are treated as if they lack human input when, he insists, every AI system reflects human decisions. "We love to talk about technology as if it had no face... But that could be one of the most dangerous movements for society. We need to see the person behind the curtain," Kozyrkov concludes.
