Tinder, the dating app that revolutionized the way people meet, announces the launch of 'Photo Selector", an AI-powered feature that effortlessly helps users choose the best photos for their profile from a curated selection of images directly from their devices.
Authenticity plays a crucial role on Tinder when it comes to finding the right partner — the moment when two people 'decide' on each other on the app. In a recent survey, 85% of singles said that it is important that their profile on the dating app represents their true self. 52% found it difficult to choose a profile picture and 68% said an AI feature would help with photo selection.
In addition, most single women prefer profiles of men with at least four pictures that reflect their personality. Men with more than one facial photo in their profile increase their chances of matching with women by 71%. With 'Photo Selector', Tinder offers a digital companion that collects a diverse selection of photos from users' camera rolls to help them find the best possible partner.
Real connections
Singles between the ages of 18 and 24 spend an average of 33 minutes choosing the right profile picture for their dating app.
By simplifying the photo selection process, the 'Photo Selector' allows users to focus more on building meaningful relationships instead of spending an inordinate amount of time choosing pictures. This promises more spontaneity in online dating.
The advent of smartphones and wearable cameras has brought with it a new challenge in the digital age: the paradox of choosing from a huge number of options, which AI technology is now solving.
"We are proud to be the first dating app to use an AI tool that makes profiling much easier - an area we know is one of the most difficult in dating. As the leader in this category, we are committed to defining the best use cases in the industry for meaningful AI integrations for consumers," said Faye Losotaluno, CEO of Tinder. "As our 'Photo Selector' feature demonstrates, we are developing AI technology to help people make decisions, not make them for them. Our commitment to our users is clear, as is our vision for AI: at Tinder, we are developing innovative technology to create a safer space for people to form authentic relationships."
'Photo Selector'
Take a selfie for facial recognition, grant access to your camera roll and let Tinder's AI technology select photos for you. You decide which pictures you want to select and add to your profile. Even though 'Photo Selector' simplifies this process, "there are still best practices for creating an authentic impression of you when making a first impression," the app says.
Devyn Simone, Tinder's dating expert, gives tips for choosing profile photos that reflect your personality:
- Find your light: Imagine you are a star at a glamorous photo shoot. Well-lit photos are always in; natural light is your best friend. Find a shady spot on a sunny day and take a few photos. It's always good to have several options to choose from.
- Avoid confusion: No one wants to play "Where's Waldo" on your profile pictures. People are here to get to know you, not your whole group of friends. A group photo is fine, but leave the rest alone. Opt for a well-lit, fun photo that shows you at your best.
- Clean the lens: This is easy. You do not want to look like you were photographed in fog. Give the lens of your camera a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth before posing. Sharp, clear photos = instant improvement.
- Have fun: Your profile should be a mini-story about your fabulous life. Show different sides of your personality with different photos: a striking picture, one in action (you are doing something you love), a picture of you chatting with others, and a spontaneous snapshot. Make people want to find out more about how fantastic you are.
- Update regularly: If your photos are older than your grandmother's photo albums, it's time to update them. Stay current by adding a new photo or two. New pictures show that you are active and make your profile look fresh and exciting.
