Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Data Privacy at European University and author of the paper Deepfakes, the next challenge in fake news detection, Francisco José García-Ull, explains that "Artificial Intelligence has revolutionized the way we detect and prevent fraud, offering powerful tools to identify suspicious behaviors and strange patterns. However, cybercriminals also use AI to sophisticate their attacks, creating deepfakes and extremely realistic fake profiles that fool users and traditional security systems. An example of this is the recently known news in which five people have scammed 325,0000 euros from two women by pretending to be Brad Pitt. In this case, the profiles were so real that these women believed they had a relationship with the actor through the Internet and sent him large amounts of money.

Garcia-Ull stresses that, as technology advances, systems must be developed that effectively detect threats, respect privacy rights, and minimize false positives.

The Artificial Intelligence expert highlights that the EU AI Law "is designed to address these challenges, imposing regulations that promote ethical and safe use of the technology, without compromising user privacy or effectiveness in threat detection."
