Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, an enhanced version of its current console, designed to offer an even more advanced gaming experience. This new version is aimed at the most demanding gamers and content creators who seek better graphics quality, superior performance, and cutting-edge technologies like 8K support and AI integration.
With a release date set for November 7, 2024, the PlayStation 5 Pro promises significant improvements, such as a more powerful GPU, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, and advancements in visual quality and game performance.
Improved Graphics and Advanced Ray Tracing
One of the main features of the PS5 Pro is its upgraded GPU, which includes 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory compared to the standard PS5. This results in a 45% increase in graphics processing power, allowing games to run more smoothly while maintaining stable frame rates of 60 FPS, even in the most graphically demanding titles.
The PS5 Pro also features advanced ray tracing, a technology that enhances how light is represented in virtual environments. Sony has optimized this feature, making the speed of light rays up to three times faster than on the current PS5, providing more realistic reflections and shadows in video games.
Additionally, the console introduces the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) system, an AI-powered upscaling technology that improves image quality and frame rates, comparable to Nvidia's DLSS and AMD's FSR technologies.
Next-Generation Connectivity
The PlayStation 5 Pro offers not only graphical enhancements but also improved connectivity. With support for Wi-Fi 7, the console will enable faster connections and reduced latency, ideal for online gaming and high-resolution streaming. It also includes compatibility with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) to prevent screen tearing and support for 8K resolutions, offering ultra-realistic graphics on compatible displays.
The PS5 Pro will be available starting November 7, 2024, at a launch price of $699.99 in the United States, €799.99 in Europe, and ¥119,980 in Japan. The console will come with a 2TB SSD and a DualSense controller. Pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024.
The lack of a built-in disc drive (like the standard PS5) and the higher price (250 euros more than the regular version) has not been well received by the gaming community, who view the new product as "excessive." Another factor contributing to this reaction is that to enjoy a PS5 Pro with disc-reading capability, users must spend an additional €120 to buy the external CD drive, bringing the total cost to nearly €1000.
