OpenAI is planning to increase the price of its subscription to the paid version of its chatbot ChatGPT Plus, which will cost two dollars more at the end of this year 2024, and will continue to increase the subscription fee to $44 over the next five years.

The technology company has shared this with its investors through a series of financial documents to which The New York Times has had access, in which, in addition, it has also detailed that it intends to increase the subscription price consecutively.

The company led by Sam Altman launched ChatGPT Plus in February last year, a version of its chatbot that offers advantages such as more speed in its responses, availability even in times of high demand, and access to the functions of the latest models launched by the technology company, for a subscription of $20 per month.

In other words, OpenAI plans to double the price of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) ChatGPT Plus service by 2029 and, in doing so, expects to reach $100 billion in revenue during that same year, as the U.S. media outlet has qualified.

Since its launch, OpenAI has experienced growth in the use of this service, reaching around 10 million users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus globally. In this context, to improve its revenues, the technology company has announced that it expects to increase the subscription price to this service by 2 dollars by the end of 2024, from 20 to 22 dollars per month.

This roadmap to increase prices for the ChatGPT service coincides with OpenAI's recently announced plans to abandon its non-profit status and reconstitute itself as a public benefit company, giving its CEO, Sam Altman, a 7 percent stake in the company.
