In a world where technological advances no longer surprise us so much, Meta, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, has presented a prototype that could change the way we interact with technology. It is Orion, augmented reality glasses that, according to Zuckerberg, could one day replace smartphones. Although not a commercial product, Orion offers us a glimpse into the future of Meta and his vision of how technology could become even more integrated into our daily lives.
Features of Orion glasses
The Orion glasses have a bulky design due to internal components, such as Micro LED projectors, which allow digital information to be superimposed on the real environment. This prototype allowsthe physical world to be used as a canvas for 2D and 3D applications, and Meta claims it has the widest field of view in its class, enhancing interaction with multitasking windows, life-size holograms and other types of digital content. In addition, Orion incorporates innovative controls, such as the ability to navigate the system using voice, eye movement, or a haptic feedback wristband that converts finger gestures into clicks and scrolls. Meta AI, the integrated artificial intelligence assistant, facilitates tasks such as sending messages or visually labeling objects, for example, types of food. Although they do not need to be connected to a smartphone, Orion requires a wireless wearable computer that the user can carry in their pocket. While this prototype is far from reaching the market, Meta has made it clear that it is one of the most advanced devices they have developed, but they are not rushing its launch due to possible high costs.
Ray-Ban Meta continues to improve
While Orion is still in development, Meta continues to refine its Ray-Ban Meta, smart glasses that have received significant improvements through software updates. At Meta Connect 2024, Meta announced new AI-based functionalities, such as a vision system capable of scanning QR codes and texts, setting reminders, and improving real-time translation capabilities. These enhancements make the Ray-Ban Meta a more attractive option for users interested in wearable and smart technology.
