IndesIA, in collaboration with the UPM, has organised the IndesIAhack 2024, a university hackathon focused on artificial intelligence applied to the industrial sector. The event will take place on 6, 7 and 8 November at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación of the Madrid university.
Participants in the event, which will include university and vocational training centre students, will work in teams applying their knowledge of Big Data and AI to solve the challenges posed by IndesIA partner companies such as Airbus, Ferrovial, Gestamp, ITP Aero, Navantia, Repsol, Telefónica and Técnicas Reunidas, as well as the challenge presented by the UPM and Eunomia. All of them correspond to real challenges they face on a daily basis.
During the hackathon, participants will have the help and guidance of professionals and experts in data and AI from these companies, who will act as mentors. IndesIAhack, in addition to encouraging creativity and the innovative potential of students, also seeks to foster collaboration and bring young talent closer to the real needs of industry today.
Challenges
The challenges of this edition will be focused on key sectors: Telecommunications, Construction, Automotive, Energy, Aeronautics, Engineering and Naval. Specifically, they will look for AI to help in aspects such as boosting the energy transition; the search for information to improve decisions in the field of ESG; the evaluation of bids for public tenders; the real-time detection of weather conditions; the prevention of vulnerabilities in software systems; the configuration of aircraft; the optimisation of the oil & gas pipeline; the prediction of failures in industrial manufacturing machinery; and the integration of regulations (standards, laws, documentation) in information systems.
Beyond the training experience and the possibility of connecting with leading companies in the national and international industry, the hackathon will award a prize of €1,000 to the best AI solution for each of the industrial challenges, and the IndesIAhack grand prize, sponsored by Microsoft, which amounts to €2.2,000.
Participate
The deadline to register as a participant in IndesIAhack will be open until 20 October through the website https://indesiahack.org/register/. Although registration must be done individually, participation will take place in teams of 3 to 5 people, formed by the event organisers to combine the skills and experiences of each member.
According to Nuria Ávalos, CEO of IndesIA, "training these future AI experts is key to ensuring the growth and competitiveness of the industry, in a context where 50% of the job offers related to this technology will remain unfilled in 2023 due to the lack of qualified professionals. Therefore, the collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, a benchmark in the technological field, allows us to continue promoting our objective of developing specialised talent and also to bring the real demands of the labour market closer to the students".
