100% renewable energy, refrigeration, and security in new infrastructure. The three Amazon Web Services data centers located in Huesca, Villanueva de Gállego, and El Burgo de Ebro meet all the requirements of the European green transition and have created around 6,800 new jobs in a region that aims to become a key player among Europe's top tech hubs. This investment, totaling €15.7 billion, marks the largest investment in Aragón's history.

The Seattle company has worked closely with the Aragonese community. Each of these centers is projected to consume 36,461 cubic meters of water annually. To manage this, Amazon has restored the hydrographic basins utilized by the company. Amazon has collaborated with a water leak detection company based on cloud technology that leverages AWS services to identify and optimize the water system infrastructure in Villanueva de Gállego.

As part of Amazon's global climate commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across all operations by 2040, AWS data centers in Aragón have offset their electricity usage with 100% renewable energy since their opening in 2022. Additionally, in collaboration with an environmental local group, Amazon will use drainage water from nearby agricultural fields for irrigating a downstream poplar forest. This forest will act as a natural filter, absorbing nutrients from the water and preventing them from reaching the river. The project is expected to supply 864 million liters of clean water annually to the community, improving water quality and reducing the amount extracted from the Ebro River for irrigation, thus helping to meet regional quality objectives, according to Aragón Digital.

Amazon is committed to long-term sustainability, reflecting a holistic approach that includes environmental restoration and innovation in resource management. The collaboration with Aragón not only benefits the company but also boosts the region's economic and technological development, positioning it as a key player in the field of technology and sustainability in Europe.
