This week, the IFEMA exhibition centre hosted TECH SHOW 2024, a major trade fair at which some of the most curious technological innovations of the moment are presented. But in this edition, one of these has become the protagonist of the event, artificial intelligence.
The branches where the implementation of this technology is most commonly seen are cybersecurity, health and ecommerce. Proof of this is the number of stands related to these topics that were to be found on the site. However, the space was also occupied by large companies such as Huawei, IBM, ABB or Himoinsa.
At the same time, during the two days of the event, numerous talks and debates were given by experts, who tried to show an attentive audience the qualities of artificial intelligence and how it can be used in different fields. An example of this was the talk by Tomás Trenor, director of Data and Analytics at Sanitas, who explained how their customer service chatbot, SanIA, works and what measures they use to protect their users' health data. Finally, Trenor highlighted the importance of data in the process of improving and empowering its AI. "Thanks to the information we have collected from customers, SanIA knows who is best to call in the morning and who would prefer to receive their appointment confirmation via WhatsApp in the afternoon," the expert explained.
As more companies produce more documents, AI simplifies the processing and analysis of this data to provide insights in a matter of seconds. This provides valuable information for strategic decision-making. In fact, AI is vital to the functioning of business processes today, as it helps automate enterprise systems and predict successes. Among other things, it can predict a change in consumer behaviour even before it manifests itself, a capability that helps mitigate business project risks.
Curious inventions
But the corporate theme is not the only thing we find in this TECH SHOW, there is also space for some very peculiar inventions, as is the case of the proposal of Neurologyca. This company let visitors try out its facial analysis AI known as Kopernica. This curious programme analyses facial expressions and features to determine the emotions, stress or degree of attention of the person in front of the camera.
In addition, the information collected can be used to create graphs and "heat maps", which allow for a better analysis of the emotions and psychological profile of users. Jose Luis Pesh, scientific director of Neurologyca, says that this technology has "applications in many sectors" "We are currently implementing it in airports and in some public transport in the United States," he added. The company is currently collaborating on research with the University of Valladolid and is working on implementing Kopernica in the marketing sector.
The TECH SHOW 2024 at IFEMA has proven to be a key meeting point for exploring the impact and possibilities of artificial intelligence in multiple sectors. The event has undoubtedly underlined the importance of AI in the present and its enormous potential for the future.
